Harbingers of Spring

The rest of the world can have its groundhog. In Southern California, we don’t watch for shadows from burrowing furry friends, or lack thereof. Spring comes in subtle, colorful ways. First thing this morning, I awoke to a hummingbird out my window, bobbing its way through the tulip tree, in full bloom. Then, I walked outside to a balmy morning rich with the smell of blossoms on my citrus trees. On the way to work, I noticed that the first blooms were out on the San Vicente Coral trees, even though the trees are still mostly leafless. Tonight, I enjoyed my espesso in the front garden, enjoying gardenias and night blooming jasmine. I know rain is on the way, but I’m not fooled. Spring is here.
